IPO students joined “International Youth Exchange Program” at Ireland and Poland

Two IPO students, Mike CHEUNG and Rax LAU were nominated to join the “International Youth Exchange Program” in August 2015 which is jointly organised by the Home Affairs Bureau of the HKSAR Government and the Commission on Youth, to visit Ireland and Poland to broaden their horizons and international perspective and exchange views with foreign youngsters.

IPO Students Meet with Prof. Steven CHU, Nobel Laureate in Physics 1997 and the Former US Secretary of Energy

Prof. Steven CHU, Nobel Laureate in Physics 1997 and the Former US Secretary of Energy was invited to share insights on climate change and renewable energy at HKUST as one of the University’s 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series on 15 September 2015. Before the talk, Prof. CHU attended the sharing session with students from IPO and School of Science which is a very valuable and rare opportunity for students to talk and learn direct from a Nobel Prize winner and a Former US Secretary.

IPO Welcome Party was held on 7 Sep to welcome all new undergraduate students to join IPO family. IPO new students, faculty and staff gathered at IPO Learning Commons A to chat and enjoy refreshments.

Simple technology to make BIG difference in healthcare problems in the developing world

Student Innovation for Global Health Technology, hosted by the Division of Biomedical Engineering, led by Prof. Ying CHAU, mobilizes students from different disciplines to apply their knowledge in transforming innovative ideas into tangible solutions to tackle healthcare problems of poor communities. It held a press conference on 31 August 2015 to show their fruitful trips to Cambodia with two new inventions: portable drug dispensary box and electronic medical system, which helped improve the efficiency and quality of the healthcare service in the slums.

To give all IPO students a “COLD” welcome in the HOT September, IPO distributed free ice-cream to IPO students on 1 September, the first school day of 2015/2016.
