T&M-DDP Students received Special Mention in HKUST President’s Cup 2019

Sampriti DWIVEDY & Miro CHAN, Year 5 students of Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management, received Special Mention in HKUST President’s Cup 2019 with the project of “Smart Facility Management for Smart Campus”. Their project aims at integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Internet of Things (IoT) for the optimization of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control to balance thermal comfort with energy costs.

Exam Cheering Free Fruit Giveaway

In order to give you support and more vitamin C and dietary fiber during the exam period, IPO will provide free fruit to IPO students in the coming 2 weeks (17-29 May, Mon – Fri). Daily selected fresh fruit will be provided in IPO Learning Commons A (Room 4380, Lift 17/18) and you are welcome to collect it from noon. The fruit will be provided in first come first served basis.

China's Global Search for Talent: A 40 Year Retrospective

Prof. David ZWEIG, Chair Professor of Division of Social Science, and Director of Center on China's Transnational Relations gave an IPP Distinguished Lecture on “China's Global Search for Talent: A 40 Year Retrospective” on 12 April 2019. Prof ZWEIG has been studying China’s talent policy and its efforts for over 28 years. He shared some of his findings and insights on this 40-year effort that began in 1978 when Deng Xiaoping first argued that China had to let its students go abroad if it wanted to catch up with the West.

The Policy Dialogue Series “Crisis Management and Lessons Learnt: From SARS, to Excess Lead in Water Supply, to Lamma Island Vessel Collision Incident” was held on 14 April 2019. Professor Anthony CHEUNG, former Secretary for Transport and Housing in Hong Kong, discussed and examine HKSAR government’s ability on crisis management, with the examples of SARS in 2003, Lamma Island Vessel Collision incident in 2012 and the Lead/heavy metal in drinking water incident in 2015.

Joint Seminar - Dissent on Aadhaar, Big Data meets big brother

Through studying the Aadhaar (identity system in India), the seminar argues that the use of Aadhaar is not solely used to ensure high-efficiency of Indian’s welfare system, but also contributing to the data-mining in India. Participants who concerned about a healthy democracy in India, students and scholars of political science, law and public policy may interested in joining the seminar.

RMBI Symposium 2019

The Symposium on Risk Management and Business Intelligence 2019 gathered over 280 students, scholars and industry leaders at HKUST on 23 March 2019. The theme of this year is FinTech, a very hot topic in finance and innovation fields. Speakers from industries of banking and investment, regulatory body, consultancy, artificial intelligence and telecommunications shared their views on the latest development and issues of FinTech from the perspectives of risk management and business intelligence.
