The Metaverse Cross-disciplinary Design Thinking course, led by Prof. Pan HUI, Chair Professor of the Division of Emerging Interdisciplinary Areas (EMIA), has concluded. This course uses digital twin technology to build a Metaverse virtual classroom, allowing students from both schools to attend classes, learn and communicate simultaneously in different places.

Hong Kong academics warn hot nights to increase by 50%, this year’s record rainfall will be outstripped and call for coordinated response

An inter-university research team by HKUST, CUHK and HKU conducted a study on extreme weather events and their impacts on the built environment in Hong Kong. According to climate model projections, the research team indicated that Hong Kong is expected to experience its highest hourly rainfall of 230mm in the 2040s, over 40% higher than the record set during a recent black rainstorm. Prof. Jimmy FUNG, Associate Provost (Teaching & Learning) and Chair Professor of the Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR), said the intensity of rain is going to increase tremendously amid global warming.
